grade distribution

im a lazy student at bates why is close to failing a L.A class witch is unusual. i came to my teacher with concer asking how did that happen? he explained that three short papers where worth %40 of my grade! this is outragious %40 percent of my grade on a few hand written half full pages. i found this as a problem and came straight to here to observe what other students had to say on the topic.

Okay. So you say that these papers are worth 40% of your grades then why don't you stay after and do them. I know that at the beginning of this MP i was failing L.A too but i stayed after and made up the work and i now have a C. so the more effort you put into the more your grades will rise.

you are missing the point!

well i have to say it is an easy fix and thats a nice thing but you are missing the piont. i should be doing my work but nothing should be worth that much alone. this is why i propose that the county forge a system for grade distribution so all classes have a reasonable way to make a final grade.

Ahh, i belive you had Mr.Dunn? Am I right? well anywho... i have him as well and i understand where he is comming form, english is mainly writing and reading but most students don't even read the books, cliffnotes pure salvation, so writing needs to be a bigger part of your grade.

you have a point

i find you have a very valid point. writing is very importaint to the subject of language arts but isnt 40% a little extreme? thats almost half and that just seems rediculous. i respect your vision on the subject and only suggest that it be controlled by the county instead of the teachers. its kind of like states rights but instead of state and fedaral levels there are teachers and county and so on.
