Remove 10 minute extension from 2008 from school hours

I go to South River HS and here is how our schedule works
- Periods 1, 2, and 4 are 88 min. where as Period 3 is only 85 min.

I dont think we would have needed 88 min. classes. 85 would have done fine. Also, in some HS, some periods might be shorter than others. If 10 min. are taken off, this would provide EVEN time for ALL classes. I have also seen this issue in a couple of Middle Schools (see home pages).

I have checked out some other HS schedules and here is another issue I noticed. The class time in some High Schools has actually been SHORTENED, what with their daily advisories and all. An example is the schedule changes in Meade and Arundel HS's A similar issue that I noticed in both HS and MS is that the difference in their current and previous class time was not really that significant, whether it would be that between a 88 min and 85 min class or a 58 min or 56 min class or a 6h30m and 6h40m school day. If you ARE going to lenghten the school day, at least have the change be somewhat significant.

This is a summary of my main arguments that I hope students and the BOE will take into consideration as well as support:
- The previous school time would have been alright and might have even exceeded MD school stnadards.
- Shortening of the school day might provide EVEN time in each class.
- Instructional time in some HS has actually been shortened due to nwe schedule features.
- Change was not significant and might not have helped students as was the BOE's intent.
