Student Parking Policy

Does anyone have an opinion on the criteria used to determine which seniors receive parking? For example should students get priority if they are involved in a work/intern program or Jump Start or if they maintatin a 2.0, participate in extracurricular activities, etc.?

Student Parking Policy

um..honesly im only a sophomore but i think that seniors arent the only people that are allowed to park on school property. The schools should honestly think about making a way so that juniors and seniors are able to have student parking. Like for example . theu have to have a 2.5 gpa. they have to have all the credits they are supposed to have. and they have to be involved in a extracuricular activity. because. i live in my school basically. i stay after everyday till about 4 or 5 oclock doing work .
and i never have a ride home, so i have to walk a good amount of miles. but see i drive. so i would like the option to be able to drive to school my junior year. that will be so convienient .

Student Parking Policy

I agree. I understand why seniors get priority parking, but at least the extra spaces, which there are, at least at severna park high, should be given on a need basis to juniors who are involved in afterschool activities and maintain a certain GPA. I have the same problem at my school. I can't walk home from school, and my ride from this year is graduating. I'll be able to drive next year, but if i cant park I'll have to spend hours afterschool waiting for a ride or I'll have to give up some of my activities.

parking spaces

At OM junoirs were able to park last year but this year they unessiarily took away that parking lot. Even without it there is still plenty of spaces in the senoir lot that could be given to needy juniors.

they are taken away because the teachers needed to park in the old Senior lot. As for the spots in the new Senior Lot, (old Junior Lot), Those I believe should be given away to needy juniors (athletes, people who work, etc.)

Student Parking Policy

I know a few IB students who were granted parking passes and they had to go through alot to get them, I think that is soo crazy. While there are extra spaces in the Senior lot juniors are parking in the neighborhoods about to get towed away so then what are they gonna do???? I know for a fact that there are a bunch of umm well u know students who sit in the senior lot an light up before school or whatever and no one ever says anything to them but yet they are still allowed to park, im with sage my ride is graduating this year too...however hopefully i will be driving 2nd semester and do you think im going to get a parking pass...you bet ya...wanna know why...becuz im brittany

It's always interesting to me to hear people talk about all of these issues with parking at their schools. There's more than enough parking at Meade and anyone, sophmores to seniors, can park in the student parking lots if they register for a permit. I'm intersted in figuring out why some schools as big as Broadneck don't find some way of imcreasing parking space. I'm sure that there are pieces of land near each school that could be used for a parking lot. Just an idea from your friendly neighborhood Mustang...

Student Parking Policy

Man do I miss going to Meade.

Student Parking Policy

It's kind of an amazing place, but everybody falls for the lies that have been spreading about us for 20 years. People look at us as a problem school, but we have many good things going for us that no one ever hears about.

Student Parking Policy

That is true. Meade is not as bad as everyone thinks (or used to be) but it does have its one problems like anyonther high school. I even heard people laugh at why they gave IB to Meade.

School Parking

I am only a freshman but i will have my lisence by next year and i think that anyone that gets a permit should be able to park. Not just the seniors. I mean we all did the classes and took the test. Just because they're older. That just doesn't make any sense to me.

Student Parking Policy

Well they should get priority because they have jobs, work study and some participate in jump start. If all freshman/sophmores park what about the senoir who have to leave school before it is over.

School Parking

Well its not like some freshman and sophmores have jobs. The seniors just get to get out early. i currently have a job and its not like i get to get out early. So saying that they have jobs isnt a good excuse to why the seniors only get ot park on school grounds.

Student Parking Policy

The staff is currently writing a new standardized policy for parking. If you have any opinion on the issue, I'd suggest you come to a board meeting and testify sometime in the next few months before we take a vote.

Student Parking at High Schools

The following language is taken directly from the proposed parking regulation:

"PROCEDURES
1. Each high school principal annually determines the number of parking spaces on the school premises to be designated for students.

2. The principal will communicate the parking capacity to students and parents.

3. Parking authorization for students is a privilege and not a right. Students are subject to all laws and local school rules regarding driving and parking vehicles on school grounds. Cars are subject to search by school officials or police officers, subject to the provisions of applicable law regarding search and seizure.

4. Each high school that has parking spaces available for students will charge a $15.00 non-refundable fee per semester. The fee applies for any part of the semester the space is used by the student and shall not be pro-rated.

a. Revenue from student parking must go in a school account established solely for student parking fees.

b. All revenue collected from student parking will go toward property and parking-related expenses, which may include, but are not limited to parking decals, lot maintenance, traffic flow signage and application materials.

5. Parking spaces shall be allotted in the following priority order:

a. Priority #1 ?¢Ç«®Çƒ˙ Seniors participating in school-supervised work/intern programs.

b. Priority #2 (if parking spaces remain): Seniors attending Jump Start or another educational pursuit. The determination of whether an activity qualified as an educational pursuit shall be made by the principal in his or her sole discretion.

c. Priority #3 (if parking spaces remain): Seniors who are involved in extra-curricular activities.

d. Priority #4 (if parking spaces remain): Seniors who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and above at the time spaces are allotted.

e. Priority #5 (if parking spaces remain): All other seniors.

6. In the event that all student parking needs cannot be met within any priority group, principals will use a lottery system.

7. Principals reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to grant a parking permit in special circumstances.

8. Schools shall issue parking permits to identify those vehicles permitted to utilize available student parking spaces. The parking permit is issued only after completion of a safe driving workshop conducted by the Anne Arundel County Police.

9. Disciplinary sanctions related to student parking are outlined in the Code of Student Conduct."

Please post your opinion about this proposal.

Thanks,

Ms. Brophy

Re: Student Parking Policy

i agree that seniors should not just be the only one to park at school because the seniors leave after 1st and 2nd period anyways so when i become a junior i would like to ride my car to school too.
