The IB program
I would like to know who like the concept of the IB program! At the forum People mentioned some Pro's and Con's towards the program! We only got to do that with one out of the 4 forums, therefore who is in favor of this program and who is against!? And please state why!
I like the program because it is a private school education that is free! It would push me up to my potential standards! It is a challenge, yes, but kids really need that wake up call to get them ready for college!

The IB program
I think the IB program is great for students that don't mind leaving their local high schools. If i were going to be going to Old Mill or Annapolis i would probably apply, but i'm going to Broadneck next year and while i respect getting a good education i wouldn't switch schools to get the IB program. If IB were in all schools (which i know is not possible currently) then i think a lot more students would apply.
hey current ib/elp program members...
my parents want me to do the elp program but does that conflict with extra curriculars? i know whats more important, but i dont want to spend the next four years of my life in my room doing homework.
The IB program
it actually helps with ur extra curricular activities! it gives u the hrs you need i m going next year and so are a lot of my buddies
IB Program
THere are think about expanding the IB program to Meade High. This is on the basis that Meade is under capacity and that the military kids could transfer their credits becuse the IB program is Wolrd Wide.
IB
As you can tell by my screen name, I am in the IB program. If you do not live near the school that has it there do not enlist. I have friends who live in Crofton that go, and they have to know two different bus schedules and get home really late. Also, although it says the IB program only asks for a little more work from you, the teachers say they need more stuff from you than what the work says to do. Then they told me that if I want to do what they are lookin for, or if I want to do well in the class, I need to exert more time and effort to it  . That is a chain that means you actually do 2-3 times as more than what they say in the information. It's very confusing. Also, it means they ask you to exert yourself more in each class because they all ask it seperately. From the time I get home to the time I go to sleep(9-12 depending on homework), I do homework, and some extra curricular activities[and dinner is included too]. It takes up most of my shedule unless you don't do everything to the standards they ask. Some of my friends just go with C's or B's so that they can do other stuff. There are lots of long term projects while you do short-term. It all adds up. Some of us kind of look and act to the equivalent of a half-dead person. Thats most of the bad stuff. Some good stuff is that you get mostly new equipment, my science class is awesome. It has some of the latest technology the school can afford[aka high definition projectors, powerful microscopes, video attachments for microscopes, computers for every lab station, and our teacher has a new laptop, while we got new books, fresh off the printing thingy]. Theres other good stuff, but it and the other bad stuff takes to long to list. Ask if you want more information, tell me if you don't understand anything.
The IB program
I forgot to mention you are first in line for most stuff like parking spaces and other junk. And I'm neither for or against. Though right now with my sleep defecit, I am sorta against.
The IB program
I dont support the IB program in our school system. Although I think the prgram is great for some students, it doesnt work for other students even if they are intelligent. If you want a challenging class that follows an established curriculum, take AP. This is open to everyone and doesn't take money away from the majority of the students in the county as it is open to everyone. The IB pragram also draws smart students out of good schools and moves them to other schools. IN the schools losing smart kids, the ones left who don't feel that the IB program is right for them(for example, they may not want a balanced education, but want to thier time to one sport and academics) they are left with lower-achieving kids. It is difficult to learn when all they motivated students have left a school. Also, smart kids not in the IB program but in IB schools feel inferior to the IB students when they are really just as smart. However, my main problem with the program is that I don't think so much of the county's budget should reach such a small group of students.
IB Program
The IB program is not county it is international. While I personally belive AP is better than IB (which is why I didn't enroll) THe IB program is good for other students. Its like the other end of the spectrum as IEP it is also a smaller group than the general student population but it is in their best intrests to get the better attention.
Re: The IB program
Im in the IB program and I feel it is a program that pretty much prepares you for college. I'm not saying that Honors or AP classes dont help you. But, I feel that IB is the wake up call that keeps you on your "A game".
Re: The IB program
I feel that the way IB brings together more of the higher achieving children throughout the county it provides the type of learning environment that will prepare you for college. Sorry to crush hopes, but a majority of colleges require you to take a spread of classes and although you may not like the subject you will still need to do well it in. Even here at MIT I'm required to take boring English classes. =P. No offense, I'm just a math/science person who was in IB and forced to learn some english and philosophy.
