Recess
Hi
I think that we should have a recess. I used to have so much fun during recess. It would give us some time to relax and hang out with our friends. It might make the periods shorter too. I think that recess would be really fun. :eusadancing: :D

I don' t even remember recess. And in secondary education lunch is considered your recess. It would be impractical to take time from the cramped school day to have recess.

I agree with DrewT and think of how impractical it would sound for high schoolers having recess! What would you do at recess, it's not like you would play on the play ground!

Well they did have hour lunches one upon a time (5 years ago) at Old mill, but sadly with the block schedule that is just not possible.

Is 25 min not enought tiem to get our food? I will admit that for a couple of lunches this year i was still eating. But we don't need a luch that is too long because that would be more time for troulbe. and as Roo said with the block schedule that is not posible.

Im not sure exactly what you're asking for when you say that you would enjoy having recess now, in high school. Do you feel that high school students would be well served to run around on a playground during their school day? I believe that any efforts to secure a "recess", should be focused on extending lunch periods. Twenty-Five minutes, the amount of time alloted for lunch at most school, is not much.

SB is right if you lobby for anything ti should be longer lunches.

I would say longer lunches with more liberty. We have foreign exchange students from Belgium who say that they get about an hour and a half each day just to cool down and let the imformation they get sink in. It's proven that your brain can only retain so much information after an extended period of time and that we have shorter attention spans, so we wind up missing part of what is said, then fail to remeber a good protion of it. Splitting up the day to provide this absorption time would greatly improve our learning. Right now, we're like stir-crazy animals in a cage for 6 1/2 hours.

I think that a longer lunch period would be the best thing because it would also give time for last minute studing, And maybe for students can get ready for a game? Well that does sound like a recess, in the long run! Maybe we should have recess but not calling it recess! But there would have to be an acception on where people could go, for supervision requirements!

 School is a place of learning - we hear this all the time, though we sometimes disapprove, it is very true.
Thats why having recess, extended lunch periods, and/or shortning the periods wouldn't be helpfull in having teenagers learn. I too have a desire of getting sometype of break during these hours, but if you think about it, from a MATURE prospective, having some form of a recess wouldn't benefit the school day at all; other than adding more fun to it. Think about it, either the idea will take away from your Education or your "fun time/happy hour" just after school. \(I forgot who, but someone mentioned shortning the school periods.)Not to sound all Mature or Grown - up, but id rather wait for my fun time right after school. I always look forward to it, and sometimes treat it as a goal.
I would tell myself that i couldn't have fun until i "finish my work": whatever it might be.

In a lot of european countries high schools are set up like colleges you may have only one class a day or no classes at all Except in (DODS  ). the body does need a longer cool down time if you are on the same subject for extended amounts of time. That is why 55 min classes are about optimal.

Even people who work 9-5 jobs get an hour break; we're in school almost as long as they're at work. If they know that they need a decent sized break within that span, why shouldn't students get one?

I feel that we are looking at this from a mature stand point! If you think about it, gerardmiller is right! We are at school at least 6 hrs. and the average work schedule is 8 hrs. including an hour break. And as he said earlier in this forum, it si a fact that if you have time to let the information sink in, you'll remember it more. And Fun is school is not bad! The best way for people to learn is to have fun! Even though that has nothing to do with the recess, i m just proving that theory wrong. Having a break will also help the learning consentration span, because you have more time to review what you learned!

Going to work is different than school. School is learning and comprehending. There is way more mental effort involed. The human mind has to have a cool down time. Studies usually say that the mind needs a break after 45-55 min. of doing the same thing yet we are in the same class for 86 min. That to me suggests that you are getting some break somewhere or your are getting overworked.
Recess
Well-said, though mispelled. If adults understand that the human mind can only accomodate so much at one, and if they provide for it in their lives, why aren't we givin the same care and consideration. A five minute between four classes that last an hour and a half does nothing to allow information to sink in, and they wonder why test scores are so bad. We don't need to go to school later, we need we have a school day that has a more sensible structure...

That was a hasty message sorry about that.
Re: Recess
i would really like to have rercess but u have to think about it we are becoming young adults and we are young adults and we need to mature more as a community and giving us recess would not be benificial to that
