Middle School AP

I think we should get Middle school aps and stuff because my little sister is in all advanced classes and she got honor roll but her friends who are in standard classes got principals honor roll. Not Fair?

AP's are COLLEGE level

The whole philosophy behind AP classes is that an advanced student can take them in high school to prepare for college, and possibly earn credits toward their degree.

Putting AP classes in middle schools is, quite simply, insane.

And regarding the Principals'/Regular honor roll designations, it really doesn't matter. In Middle School, grades are not weighted for advanced or basic classes, and the GPA of a student is not taken into account for Honor Roll. All that's considered is: 'did this student get all A's? They get Principals HR. did this student get A's and up to 2 B's? Regular HR.'

Besides, does it really matter whether your sister - or anyone - got the extra word in their title?

Middle School AP

I agree with Connor, AP classes should rightly stay in High school. To me, there are few children who I feel are capable of handling the rigors of AP classes at their age; they involve a great deal of maturity and time management as well as intelligence and a desire to learn. I doubt many are truly ready for a full fledged AP ciriculum (though a few might be), and providing a watered down version to the middle school students would be a great injustice to them.
Also, Honor Roll and Principle's honor roll mean nothing really. People can get Honor Roll, yet still have higher weighted GPA's than someone who gets Principle's Honor Roll based on the course of each student. And while you should strive to do your best, grades do no really matter in Middle School (unless you are taking high school courses of course).

Middle School AP

AP classes were originally designed for high school seniors who had completed all of the courses available to them. In the past twenty years, however, school systems have been making AP classes available to students at an increasingly young age. Anne Arundel County is a leader in that movement now making it standard practice for students as young as sophomores to enroll in MULTIPLE AP classes. Is this because our students get smarter and smarter every year? I don't think that is the case. I think the classes are just getting easier and easier. Making AP classes available to middle schoolers would only increase that effect. Granted, I am sure there are several gifted middle school kids out there who would thrive in a rigorous AP class, and I believe it is the school system's responsibility to give them that option by allowing them to take a class at their feeder system's high school or take an equally challenging class as independent study. However, to make middle school AP classes a standard practice would be detrimental to the quality of the classes.

Middle School AP

I also concur with Roo and Connor. AP classes at the middle school level would not be the wisest thing to do. The AP classes has more material and is more in depth. TH e truth is some of the High Schoolers even seniors can not handle the rigors of an AP course.
Maybe what u meant to say is have a GPA. :?
excuse me I didn't understand that. Please explain.

Middle School AP

I go to a different county because i moved from Anne Arundel. Next year i'll be taking AP World History. It will be the first AP class to be offered to freshmen. Many people (including my parents) are amazed that this is happening. Usually it isn't until you are a junior.

Middle School AP

What county is it?

Middle School AP

IF you get a certain number of A's and B's you should be rewarded for it. When taking an advanced class you shouldn't say it not fair the are in lower/standard classes you should work for an A

Middle School AP

I live the most southern county in Georgia. Camden County

Middle School AP

if you look at the mat hforum this is somewhat similar this is a college level class. I don't think this would go by with CollegeBoard

Middle School AP

Not exactly the College Board who owns the AP tests has no requirments ($82) to take the test. Technically you dont have to be enroll in an actual AP class to take the test.

Middle School AP

I think that putting AP classes in Middle School is CRAZY. Can't we just let them be kids for awhile before we push them into college?

Re: Middle School AP

AP classes don't necessarily help with college. Most colleges don't follow the same curriculum as an AP course and usually are more in depth. AP classes are starting to become just basic knowledge you need before going to college, at least core ones such as Biology, Chemistry, US History, and Calculus.

Re: Middle School AP

I dont think AP classes should be in middle school because its colledge level its way to advanced for them
