Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

How would all of you feel about having Chick-fil-A or Subway in your cafeteria? I know that in my old school, which was Briggs Chaney Middle School in Montgomery County, we had Boardwalk Fries in our lunchroom. Most people do not like the cafeteria food that is currently provided, so why can't we spend two dollars on something that we want to eat? McDonalds may not be healthy, but how about something healthier like Subway or Papa Johns? Currently, I have not bought lunch once this entire school year, but if we had a popular chain in our cafeteria, then I would buy lunch every day. Wouldn't that be better than the food that we are currently offered?

i think that that is a major financial problem! I like the idea too! but it would need to be funded!

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

Couldn't we make a deal with the chains? Couldn't we ask my old school how they did it? I have their number.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

That wouldnt be very feasable. A boardwalk fries is understanable. But a Papa Johns. That wouldn't fly. hese comapies are all about making money and you can't make money when open from 10:20-1230 monay through friday.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

then what about a Boardwalk Fries? wouldn't you like to have that in your school cafeteria?

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

I would like to have a boardwalk fries in my cafateria, more reasonable that the Papa John's I don't see this as realistic. I don't know all of the logistic for the fries at your school or in AAC but I do know there is more involed than just setting up a stand in a school.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

I want to go and ask how they did it, then i'll report it back on here. I moved from there three years ago...I don't even know if they still have it.

The other factor that you have to look at is the nutrition level. Isn't the school looking at making healthier desicions? Fast food is made for ocassional treats. not for everyday! the chains will just raise the saturated fat rates. the recent food available at schools is fatty enough

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

Who says that it has to be fast-food? We just want good food. Who says that it has to be something unhealthy like Boardwalk Fries? There are other choices.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

I'm just saying all the factors that have to be taken into account take months of study and planning.

nasty

@ my skool people wipe the grease off there pizza thats a health factor! :eusashifty: i just think thats nasty.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

I know....who want's greasy pizza and green chicken nuggets?

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

seriously, the food should be at least good pizza like Dominos or something, they have enough money to buy every class room a flat panal TV but not good food.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

Well actually, at Severna Park we don't even have enough money to buy soap for our bathrooms....

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

I go to severna park 2 and yeah there's not good soap but the technoloies like Who!!

What technology?! We have NO technology! Other public schools I have been to have television announcements every morning since they have televisions attached to a wall in every room and overheads hanging from the celing. Their hallways are really clean and white and their lockers are really big. They have amazing food and an awesome auditorium. I dunno, maybe I am comparing so much because I have seen these other schools... Have you ever been to a school like that?

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

yea my elem school had tv announcments the 5th graders did. And @ the middle skool we have smart boreds that r like big screen tvs that a projector goes onto and shows u the computer screen and u can write on it w/ the stylus, it's cool. we don't hav much but we have some tech.

back to food, we can't have chain food because according to regulation, the school cafetaria systemmust have a monopoly over food during school hours. That is why vending machines can't be on during school hours. However, maybe something else could be sold afterschool, though that wouldn't really solve anything.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

Good point saget1, lunches are probably a source of revenue for the school system.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

Guys, I'm saying that at my other school that we had the company Boardwalk Fries in our cafeteria. My old school system probably made a deal with the company. If they could do it, why couldn't we?

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

Yea, another Parkie here too. I think it would be neat to have a McDonald's or something here at SPHS, but there are some things to consider-

1. Health impact- it seems like AACPS is all about healthier school lunches these days, so I really doubt that they would let a fast food chain open in the cafeteria. Besides, there's no room in our cafeteria anyway :)

2. Financial impact- I don't know how much a fast food place would make a day at a high school, but remember that it would only be open during the lunches. That would only be about 2 hours of business a day, excluding holidays and weekends. I don't think a fast food company would want to invest in the equipment, etc. needed to open a restaurant that would only be open 2 hours a day opposed to one open for the whole day like normal restaurants.

3. Food impact- Here at Severna Park I know that sodas can only be bought after 1:55 pm because too many people were buying sodas and the cafeteria wasn't making any money off of drinks. Everyone wants soda with their fast food, so how would this work? I don't think anyone wants chocolate milk with their Big Mac...

And-

For us guys, the bathrooms aren't unlocked half the time anyway :)

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

Taking all of the previous mentioned factors into consideration it is just not feasable to have a chain in the school.

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

that would be sooo much better then what we get at our school (SOURTHERN MIDDLE) i never buy lunch the food looks like it just came out of a trash can! this is an awsome idea

THANK YOU :D

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

well the lines are already a problem in my school and if we added a fast food place everyone would go to that line and the lines would be really long

Chain Restuarant

I think it would be extremely difficult to get a chain restaurant in schools because of the nutrition policy. Also, the lines are already freakishly long. Why lengthen them?

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

to me, the nutrition factor is nothing
In third grade I never had time to make lunch, so I always bought and I ended up getting fat

My doctor even said so

so to me, school food is just as bad as fast-food

In 6th grade, I remember alway using a napkin (or 2) to get all the grease off my pizza

To me, the only problem is inter-school food competion

Also, no matter what the school board says, I don't think the foods gotten that much healthier

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

It sounds like a good idea but can you imagine if we ate fast food everyday for lunch. :eusaclap: :eusanaughty:

Chain Resturants in the Cafeteria

*ponders* yeah
maybe something like a subway?
